Krista didn't grow up on a farm but fell in love with a dairy farmer and now works alongside her husband on their family dairy farm, raising five children. Despite her non-farm upbringing, she embraces farm life, enjoys gardening, and remodeling their farmhouse. 🐄 Unique Patterns: Just like human fingerprints, every cow's nose print is unique!

🐄 Super Senses: Their noses are highly sensitive and can detect odors up to six miles away. Talk about a super sniffer!

🐄 Moisture Matters: A cow’s nose is moist, which helps them absorb scents better. That moisture also helps regulate their body temperature!

🐄 Cold Weather Friends: In colder months, cows have a special way of warming their noses by breathing in through their nostrils and warming the air before it reaches their lungs.

🐄 Social Butterflies: Cows use their noses to communicate and bond with each other, often nuzzling and sniffing to strengthen social ties!

They are for identification, the small top number is her mother, the middle number is her individual number, and the date below is her birthdate. We put one in each ear just in case they lose one.

Have you ever wondered why we use pine shavings in our barn stalls instead of sand? Here’s the scoop:

Pine shavings are our bedding of choice because they keep our cows comfortable and clean. Unlike sand, which poses challenges for our farm due to our lack of systems to manage and remove it from our lagoon or slurry store, pine shavings are easier to handle and replace. They absorb moisture effectively, helping to maintain dry and odor-free stalls.

Living in the beautiful PNW, we're fortunate to have access to fresh, dry kilned shavings, which are perfect for creating a clean and pleasant environment for our cows. Plus, they add a refreshing scent to the barn, making it a more comfortable place for both our cows and our team.

An added bonus? After use, we can compost the pine shavings, making them environmentally friendly and sustainable. This practice allows us to reuse the bedding, minimizing waste and reducing our environmental footprint.

Here's to happy cows and a fresh-smelling, eco-friendly barn! 🌲🐄

2024 has been rough.

Chasing your dreams is bound to come with many obstacles but this year has definitely been full of disappointments. With that said, we have plans, and we intend on making those plans come to life. ✌

Our kids have chores... They help keep the house

Our kids have chores...

They help keep the house they live in clean.
They help around the farm that helps keep a roof over their head.
They have everything they need and more.
They have active social lives off the farm.
They all are very active in sports.
They earn a decent paycheck each month.
They are being raised to one day become adults that make a positive impact on the world around them instead of becoming a drain on society. ✌️
